It has been quite an honor to serve as Lakota’s Lodge Chief. I have spent two years in this position and over those two years I have witnessed many great events, worked with many different people, and seen this lodge go in so many positive directions.
It was because of the many people we have in our lodge that we see all these great things happen such as 27,000 hours of service, a very productive Haunted Hike, and many other items which our lodge accomplishes. I would like to thank all of you for your time and service to our camps and to our lodge’s events. I thank the advisers for grasping the concept of a youth run organization. You understand when to step in and step back and by doing this, us youth learn how to be better leaders. The effort which you put forth is indescribable and we know that it meant to help us succeed. To my Executive Committee, I give you my deepest thanks. We have become a powerful team and the things that we have done together impacted not just a few, but all of the scouters in NWSC. We have become very close brothers and forever we will remember how each of us impacted one another. Thank you for all you have done.
Now that my time as chief is up, it becomes my duty to ensure that the lodge has quality leaders to take over. This is other wise known as “planting the seeds of leadership” and there certainly have been many seeds planted. I could not feel anymore proud of the leadership that will carry on the lodge. These brothers are some of the best and most dedicated arrowmen this lodge has had. They certainly will lead us to bigger and better things. Support these brothers in what ever they do. My advice to them is to keep planting the seeds of leadership. The lodge will not always have the same people to run it forever. To keep a good tradition alive, it takes quality people to carry it on who have been inspired by this tradition.
My final word to you all is to remember. Remember why you were chosen to be an arrowmen. You were elected by your fellow scouters because they believed that you were a leader to them and because you exemplified the scout oath and law in every way of your life. Remember all of the great moments you shared with your brothers. Remember what things you accomplished through hard work. And lastly, remember what you became from being a brother. I could not directly tell you what individual skills I learned as chief or just being an active member in the order. But I know the OA is what made the person I am today. It has become a part of me and I will forever be a member. We are the fraternity of honored campers. Once a member, always a member.
Wishing you enough,

The Lakota Lodge 175 Chief's Blog:
Brothers,
Let me be the first to comment on what a spectacular year we have had. We as a lodge have accomplished so many positive things. Our two Lodge Leadership Development courses have been through the roof with outstanding attendance and phenomenal training and it is looking like our next one in February will be even better. Many large projects were completed at the three fellowships this year with a total of 27,000 man-hours, proving that Lakota Lodge still has a lasting impact on our council camps. Another big item to point out is that three members of our lodge attended OA High Adventure this summer and ten also attended the National Conservation and Leadership Summit. There are so many more great things that happened as well and I would just like to thank all those who have made an impact on our lodge. Without the hard work and dedication you put into our order, Lakota would definitely not be what it is today.
I certainly am looking forward to this next year. With a new Lakota Lodge strategic plan going into effect, ArrowCorps5 coming up in the summer of 2008, and another year of service, I know our lodge can take the next step. That next step is a difficult item to describe in words and cannot just be known by reading about it. It is something that you must experience and that means being an active honored brother.
I encourage you to attend your chapter’s meetings if you already do not. That is the first step of knowing what we as a lodge do and also how the OA can be a big part of your scouting experience. The LLD on February 3rd will be another way to get started in the OA. If you have not used our lodge’s website yet, check it out—www.lakotalodge.org. This is a great way to get information on lodge business. Our webmasters work hard to keep it up and it is a wonderful tool. As I mentioned earlier, I am looking forward to 2008. Remember, in order to maintain a strong organization in the later years, it is important to plant the seeds of leadership. I hope that in this next year I will meet more arrowmen who will eventually lead this lodge.
Wishing you enough,

Lakota Lodge Chief
July 2007 Edition
Brothers,
For the summer, I have had the opportunity of working on staff at our own beautiful Camp Napowan. The friendships and memories that I am creating up here are absolutely priceless. I certainly do miss all my family and friends back home, but Napowan is starting to become by home away from home (next to the Bomya's home). All 70 staffers that I am working with have become family and the funny moments and good times we share can only be found up here. If you ever get an opportunity to work up at Napowan, definitely take it. I guarantee you will have one of the best summers of your life.
The OA program up here is coming along great. This is definitely one of the best OA summers we have had. The ceremonies have been amped up with revolutionary ideas and Lakota Lodge continues to impress both its own members and visiting members. The ordeal candidates are doing many positive projects to the camp and have been building great closing fire bowl fires.
At the end of the month, I will be attending the National Conservation and Leadership Summit at Indiana State University. Here, I and a few other key lodge officials will be drafting the 2008-2012 Lakota Lodge Strategic Plan. This plan will coincide with the new National Strategic Plan. This plan will be a roadmap for the lodge for the next 4 years, outlining major goals and items that we will be accomplishing. This plan will be finalized at our 2007 August LLD/Lodge planning meeting taking place on August 18-19 at the American Legion Post in Lake Zurich. I hope to see as many lodge members as possible. This LLD will be a great training experience and will be the starting point to a great lodge year. I will be selecting the next Lodge Executive Committee members very soon and I encourage any arrowman to get involved with these committees at a chapter or lodge level. To find out more information about making a difference in Lakota, attend the LLD.
I am looking forward to a great rest of the summer and an even better Lakota Lodge year.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Richie Ferolo
