Spring Fellowship 2008 Information!
To all, Please find attached the updated list (dated 5-1-08) from my visit up to Napowan. Let us know what projects you are planning to do so we can be ready for you. I took a lot of pictures that I can send to you once we know who is working on what projects. News update: we have been given a pass this year on screening in the KYBOs as long as we show we are planning to upgrade our facilities on an ongoing basis annually. Our properties committee and others will be working on a plan into the future on specific design, health department requirements etc. We have plenty to do without having to screen in the KYBOs so let go. I will forward updated copies of the list as any changes or project selections are made to minimize duplicate sign-ups and confusion. If you have any questions please e-mail or call either Josh N. (OA Lodge Camp Services Committee Chairman, lacrose92@yahoo.com) or me, Tavis Tackett, (Camp Service Committee Advisor, outdoorsman335@comcast.net, 847-358-5294). We will either get the requested information for you, or direct you to the person with the answers. There is much to do this year so we encourage as many youth and adults as possible to join us. There really is something for everyone to do regardless of your age or skill level. If you plan on helping with the docks at boating or swimming, then bring your bathing suit and some water shoes. We look forward to an excellent weekend of fellowship and improvements to our jewel of the North, Camp Napowan. Yours in Brotherhood Tavis
Previously sent 4/16/08 To all, Please find attached an updated general membership project list. You may also receive this list via our OA Lakota Lodge e-mail list; check out the subject date to ensure you have the latest version. This list is ever changing until we come back on Sunday the 18th. I know you are talking to your units and friends so let us know when you have settled on a project(s). Remember that working on the KYBOs is a priority. If you have any questions, please e-mail or call either Josh N. Previously sent 3/24/08 To all OA Lodge members, I know it is hard to believe that spring is only a few days old but it is, and Spring Fellowship and Napowan Work Weekend are only two months away. It is also because of all the snow we have had up at camp this year that I have to tell you, that our project list will change quite a bit in the next month. Napowan has had over 80 inches of snow this year and it has been impossible to assess what toll winter has taken on the camp. Getting around camp is difficult even with four wheel drive. We will also have the results of the annual camp walk-through which is scheduled for the Saturday after our Wild Banquet in April. The attached list is mostly comprised of larger projects. The walk-through will add many smaller project items and hopefully not too many large projects, as we will be quite busy as it is. Feel free to pass this on to your fellow Scouts and Scouters and ask them to join us this year at Spring Fellowship, Camp Napowan, May 16-18, 2008. I have attached the Spring Fellowship flier for your convenience. Check out the subject date on the project list to ensure you have the latest version. This list is ever changing until we come back on Sunday the 18th. One of our major projects this year will be adding privacy doors to all KYBOs that need them and bug proofing all KYBOs. This needs to be done prior to camp opening for all 17 KYBOs. We will need a lot of generators and power tools so you know this is going to be fun. I envision many separate teams of workers for this project so start your recruiting early. We are in the process of determining how we will retrofit the bug proofing and details will follow at a later date. If anyone has a source for the type of screening that is combined with hardware cloth, please send the info to me via e-mail or just call. As always thank you for your continued support of our camps and our Scouts. Some of the items on the project list are must do items but as you know we do not have access to unlimited funds. We will receive additional input on priorities and any changes to the list as the cost of projects is balanced with budgeted/available funds. Please review the list and discuss it with your Unit Scouts/adults and your ‘tool time’ friends. Decide what project (s) you would like to complete at this year’s fellowship and let us know what you have picked.
