  • What is Haunted Hike?
    • An outdoor haunted “experience” that goes through the Methodist Campground in Des Plaines IL. You will be guided along a path with displays and scary creatures. It is hosted by Lakota Lodge of Boy Scouts of America
  • How far is the hike?
    • About 3/4 of a mile.
  • Where can I get one of those super cool patches?
    • Each year we have a new patch design that helps highlight our theme. They are for sale at your District Roundtable meeting, from your OA Troop Rep or at the hike itself.
  • Where is the Haunted Hike held and how do I get there?
  • Will it be scary?
    • We think it’s pretty scary.
  • Will it be too scary for my X year old child?
    • Kind of depends on the child! If it becomes too much, we can get you out of the action pretty fast.
  • Will there be a campfire this year?
    • Yes we will! Feel free to bring your own fixings for Marshmallows!
  • Is this a good event for Cub Scout Packs?
    • Yes, many Packs in the past made the Haunted Hike as an annual event, and continue to come back.
  • Is this a good activity for non-scouts?
    • Yes! Every year we have some after school groups, church groups, and high school groups attend. We are trying to design a family friendly event and we are open to all.
  • What if it rains or snows?
    • The hike will continue, unless there is hazardous weather.
  • How do I get the scout discount?
    • Show up in your field uniform. (Sometimes referred to as a class A uniform).
  • Can girl scouts get the discount?
    • Any scouting group is eligible. Just wear your regular scout uniform.
  • Do you have to walk through the tents (they are pretty intense)?
    • No, if you do not wish to through there will be a path to walk around.
  • Is there a non-scary option to enjoy the hike?
    • Yes, there will be a non-scary, flashlight version of the Hike Saturday October 22nd 3pm-5:30pm. The non-scary version ends promptly at 5:30 pm.
  • Why is it called a Flashlight Hike?
    • Younger guests used to bring flashlights to reduce the scare and the term stuck even though the official non-scare time is during the daylight (and doesn’t require a flash light.) If you bring a light, please limit its use to make sure our other guests are properly frightened.
  • Are guests allowed to wear costumes?
    • Yes.
  • Will there be loud noise?
    • Yes.
  • Will there be strobe lights?
    • Yes.
  • Will there be fog machines?
    • Yes.
  • Will there be a gift shop like last year?
    • Yes.
  • Will there be a (very cool) band?
    • Yes.
  • Where can I get more information about the Methodists Campground?
    • The campground has been a great partner to the OA. You can get more information about the campground here.
  • I know the Haunted Hike is created by the Order of the Arrow, but who are they?
    • The Order of the Arrow is the Honor Society within the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts who are First Class and meet the requirement for camping are elected by their fellow scouts. The official website for the Order of the Arrow is here.
  • How can I help?
    • If you are an Arrowmen, contact your Chapter Haunted Hike Chairmen or call the numbers on the flyer. We also get support from many non-Arrowmen. Contact the number on the flyer if you would like to help.
